I would think almost everyone has to do laundry every week, anything from a handful of underwear to several wash loads of family laundry. Today we have automatic washers and dryers, so different from years back when those who did laundry had a laundry tub and a washboard, then a wringer washing machine. These days your machine are almost scientific as there are so many buttons to push to make sure you are doingthe correct cycle for the load of laundry you are doing at the time.
You also have so many choices for laundry detergent and fabric softeners and bleaches for whites and color safe bleaches for colores. Then you need to decide do you want laundry detergent with phosphates or do you want a nonphosphate detegent, so many decisions.
You'll need a laundry are or space to work in somewhere in your home, maybe the hallway, maybe a room off the bathroom or perhaps the kitchen, even in the basement and you'll have to make choices for the types of washer and dryer you
will purchase. Think about a storage area for those soiled clothes, will there be an area in the laundry room for those clothes waiting their turn to be laundered or will you have perhaps laundry hampers in the bathrooms or even the bedrooms for storage of soiled clothes.
Then you'll need to think about room to store the detergents, laundry aids, and stain-removal supplies. Don't forget a place to hang those permanent press items which should be removed and hung as soon as the dry stops tumbling.
You'll also need to find out about the availabilty
of the plumbing and ventilating for the laundry machines and then think about the capacity of your hot water heater, will it supply all the hot water necessary for accomplishing clean laundry, lots of things to think about when designing a laundry area or a laundry room.
Do you want to have an area in this laundry room for your ironing board, spray starch and iron to just be able to iron as the clothes come from the dryer. You'll need some counter space to fold laundry into sections or piles for each room. If you'll do that then it will be so easy
to just carry the clothing to each room, perhaps even the freshly ironed clothes that you have ironed while waiting for the washer and dry to wash more clothes.
Also here is a thought, make sure the transfer from the washer to the dryer is easiest by putting them in a position where you'll just take from one to the other. If the hot water heater is installed in the laundry area the washer will be close to the hot water. Be sure to have a good floor drainage in the area in case of overflows.
